Hydro-Québec honoured for wind integration

MONTREAL, QUEBEC - Three Hydro-Québec research teams will receive an Annual Achievement Award from the Utility Wind Integration Group UWIG, honouring their significant contribution to the development of tools for the simulation, dynamic modeling and analysis of power systems with a large share of wind power.

This recognition by UWIG is remarkable and unusual because it honours three teams of researchers from the same company — a rare occurrence.

"This well-deserved honour is a tribute to the innovative talent of our research teams and the expertise that Hydro-Québec devotes to renewables energies, particularly hydroelectricity and wind power. The relevance and timeliness of their research will allow the company to benefit from unique, highly effective simulation tools that will help to optimize wind power output and integrate many projects into Hydro-Québec's extensive power grid," said Denis Faubert, General Manager of IREQ, Hydro-Québec's research institute.

Established in 1989, the Utility Wind Integration Group UWIG provides a forum for the critical analysis of wind technology for utility applications and serves as a source of credible information on the status of wind technology and its deployment. Based in the United States, UWIG has over 150 members from the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia.
