Senior Design Engineer - Electrical

Signals/Electrical/Communications Department
Reporting to the Head - Electrical Engineering, you will be responsible for performing the more complex electrical engineering duties and managing the activities associated with the design and maintenance of the Commission's electrical systems. Your duties will include: providing engineering support and guidance to maintenance staff on a 24-hour basis; checking and approving estimates, material lists, specifications, standards, policies, work methods, test procedures, schedules and designs for planned and emergency work; co-ordinating engineering services with operating, construction and commissioning schedules; inspecting, assessing and preparing engineered details for the modification and rehabilitation of existing systems and facilities in order to ensure acceptable standards of performance and reliability; conducting comprehensive testing programmes; diagnosing complex engineering problems; preparing reports and recommendations related to design work requirements, priorities, budgets and schedules; providing direction and coordination to TTC staff, local utilities, consultants and contractors engaged in design work; taking professional responsibility for design work as required by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO). You may be required to work outside of the standard workweek to respond to trouble calls and other requirements of business. Annual Salary Range: $70,779 - $88,488.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience
You require sound knowledge of electrical engineering principles, methods and practices, a strong knowledge of project management concepts and practices, the ability to carry out and/or co-ordinate projects, and knowledge of the traction power systems. You must have a strong working knowledge of the electrical equipment, transformers, switch-gear, emergency power supplies, and light and power distribution systems and associated equipment maintained and rehabilitated by the S/E/C section. You must possess sound judgement plus excellent technical, analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal communication and report-writing skills. You must have a strong knowledge of the galvanic corrosion, Electrical Safety Code, the Canadian Electrical Code, and the Commission's electrical and traction power systems and the associated electrical/electronic equipment as well as the various functions carried out by the Signals/Electrical/Communications Department. In addition, you must be computer literate, with a good working knowledge of personal computers and computerized applications (i.e., CADD) related to the work. This body of skill and knowledge would normally be acquired by obtaining a degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, combined with extensive, directly related work experience and registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
