Con Edison hit a new peak in electricity demand for the month of June recently and also recorded the company's second-highest peak ever. At 5 p.m. June 14, Con Edison provided 12,138 megawatts in electrical power to its 3.1 million customers, setting a new record for June, which had been 11,875 megawatts set at 4 p.m. on June 26, 2003. That figure was also just short of the all-time peak record of 12,207 megawatts set on Aug. 9, 2001 at 3 p.m.

The Con Edison system delivers energy to approximately 9 million New York City and Westchester County residents. Con Edison employees are working round the clock to monitor its system, which includes about 92,000 miles of underground cables, 33,000 miles of overhead lines, 80,000 transformers and more than 203,000 utility poles.

During the ongoing heat wave, Con Edison remains in regular communication with New York City's Office of Emergency Management and the Westchester Office of Emergency Services.
