Southern States, LLC is a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-voltage switching and offers a wide selection of products and services that enable the safe transmission and distribution of energy. In addition to products, we offer technical assistance and service solutions. Our product line includes:
Salt River Project (SRP), one of America’s largest public power utilities, has been utilizing Southern States’ CapSwitcher® solution to help maintain their initiative to meet the changing needs and expectations of its customers. This new strategy is centered around SRP’s dedication to becoming “leaner, greener and more customer centric.”
SRP’s professional electrical engineer, Andy Keels, discussed how the CapSwitcher® improves cost-effectiveness, reduces inrush current, optimizes power quality, and successfully addresses a noise concern from a neighborhood near an SRP substation. The full news release explains that in order to maintain growth and achieve the goal of adding an additional 1 GW of utility-scale solar power to their grid by 2025, Salt River Project will continue to rely on the CapSwitcher® solution.
Southern States is pleased to announce that the Tertiary RLSwitcher® was selected by NV Energy, headquartered in Las Vegas, as part of their initiative to double reliance on renewable energy by 2023. NV Energy is responsible for over 44 million consumers within Nevada and relies heavily on the use of shunt reactors to provide quality power to its customers
To support their timeline, NV Energy selected the RLSwitcher® for two of its 34.5 kV shunt reactors, which, as explained in the full news release, required constant in and out switching, leading to early circuit switcher failures. Unlike traditional switches, the RLSwitcher® is designed specifically for switching shunt reactors, minimizing harmful re-ignitions that cause failures and improving overall reliability for the utility.
At the 2018 Southeastern Electrical Exchange, Southern States announced that one of their long-term customers, 4-County Electric Power Association, has deployed the Southern States’ EV-2 unitized disconnect switch to support their transmission reliability initiatives. 4-County Electric Power Association is a Mississippi based electrical distribution cooperative that serves more than 47,000 members across nine counties in eastern Mississippi.
The full news release highlights the key factors that went into 4-County EPA’s selection of Southern States as a provider, including the unitized EV-2’s ease of installation, superior reliability, and innovative design. These features resulted in significant cost savings as well as greater reliability assurance, both critically important to maintain an efficient operation.
Southern States is proud to announce that Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA), the nation's sixteenth largest public power utility based on generation, has successfully deployed Southern States’ ES-1 three-way switches as part of their transmission reliability program. With their headquarters in Vinita, Oklahoma, GRDA operates a diverse portfolio of hydro, coal, natural gas and wind generation to produce reliable electricity that reaches into 75 of 77 Oklahoma counties.
