ACCC Conductor utilizes a hybrid carbon and glass fiber core embedded in a high-performance thermoset epoxy matrix. The carbon fiber core is ~50% stronger and 70% lighter than steel. The lighter weight structural core allows the incorporation of 28% more conductive aluminum without a weight or diameter penalty (using compact trapezoidal shaped strands). The carbon fiber core also exhibits a coefficient of thermal expansion about one-tenth that of steel, which serves to mitigate thermal sag.In addition to mitigating thermal sag, ACCC Conductor also offers:-Twice the capacity of conventional AAAC ACSR Conductors Reduced line losses which reduces fuel consumption and associated emissions while also freeing up generation capacity otherwise wasted-Longer spans between fewer and/or shorter structures (for new installations) due to high strength and lower sag-Greater reliability and safety from improved clearances with under-build and vegetation-Outstanding corrosion resistance-Greater resistance to cyclic load fatigue due to improved damping characteristics-Ability to upgrade existing corridors without the need for modification or replacement of existing structuresThe characteristics of ACCC Conductor make it ideal for reconductoring; new lines; generation tie lines; long span applications; rebuild projects; EHV, UHV & DC lines; mountainous terrain; and highly corrosive environments.
