Great Southwestern has completed hundreds of transmission projects in voltages up to 500kV, and has installed thousands of miles of optical ground wire (OPGW) on overhead transmission lines. While maintaining strong relationships with landowners and respecting and addressing environmental concerns on right-of-ways, we have completed transmission projects in some of the most challenging of conditions. Whether working on farmlands or in mountains, through solid rock or swamplands, on flat sandy soil or on steep rocky inclines, using helicopters or barges, we get the job done.We have experience constructing and installing wood, steel monopole and steel lattice structures ranging in size from 60’ (including phase-raising) to 280′. We install steel lattice towers and tubular steel poles using both direct embedment and steel reinforced concrete caissons, and have experience working with a wide range of soil and ground conditions. Our experience includes work on both energized and de-energized lines. Performing hot stick and bare hand methods on energized electrical equipment allows us to prevent disruptions to power and results in time and costs savings for our utility clients. We team with some of the best engineering firms in the country to ensure clients are delivered with high-quality design/build teams and projects that maximize communication, safety, productivity and cost-savings on every project. Our procurement team has a broad understanding of how to order, package and expedite every facet of transmission line material and assembly units. We have been solicited on numerous occasions to assist utilities in how to optimize their materials procurement processes.
