Virginia regulators seek suggestions on saving energy

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA - Virginia regulators are seeking public comment on ways to conserve energy as well as plans from the state's utilities to manage electricity demands.

The State Corporation Commission was tasked by the General Assembly to determine achievable, cost-effective energy conservation and demand management targets for Dominion Virginia Power, Appalachian Power, and Kentucky Utilities.

Regulators are examining energy consumption and peak load reductions that each company could achieve as well as the consumer costs and company benefits of those reductions.

The SCC also will look at how to determine rates for the energy management programs.

Written comments are due by July 31 and a hearing is set for September 23. The commission will submit its recommendations to the governor and General Assembly by November 15.
