New Hampshire dedicates first commercial wind farm

LEMPSTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE - New Hampshire's first commercial wind farm has been dedicated in Lempster.

Developers say the 12 turbines built by Iberdrola Renewables will produce enough energy to power 10,000 typical New Hampshire homes. Public Service of New Hampshire is buying the power and selling part of it to the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative.

Governor John Lynch said the Lempster Wind Power Project is an important step toward generating 25 percent of the state's energy from renewable sources by 2025. Senator Jeanne Shaheen said it will help the United States move away from fossil fuels and address climate change.

The wind energy is the equivalent of taking about 5,700 cars off the road.
