Over the last 12 years, Bruce Power has been focused on revitalizing its site to return all units to operation and establish itself as a long-term, leading supplier of affordable, clean electricity.
“It’s essential we communicate a clear vision of how Bruce Power is contributing to the Ontario we aspire to build over the long term,” Hawthorne said.
The Bruce Power site is now in a unique position with the successful completion of the fully serviced Bruce-Milton transmission line, which Hydro One brought into service last year. In addition, it is the only nuclear facility in the province that provides Ontario’s electricity market with flexible capability – it can dynamically remove up to 2,400 megawatts from the grid upon request. With the impending phase out of coal, this flexibility is more important then ever.
“Ontario is a leader in North America, becoming the first jurisdiction to phase out coal-fired generation, and I’m proud of the role Bruce Power has played in this success,” Hawthorne said.
With the increased site output since 2002, Bruce Power has provided enough additional energy to meet 70 per cent of this challenge.
