ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR

PURPOSE:  The position of Electrical Inspector will be principally responsible for enforcement of State and City electrical codes.  This position inspects electrical work installations for compliance with State and local electrical codes and regulations to ensure the health, welfare and safety of the general public.  This position is also responsible for maintaining up-to-date records. 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

¨       Responsible for the inspection of electrical installations for compliance with State and City requirements. 

¨       Advises electrical contractors on State and City electrical codes. 

¨       Reviews and inspects exterior commercial lighting plans and swimming pool plans for compliance with City ordinances. 

¨       Assists in code compliance activities, including inspections and enforcement.

¨       Prepares and maintains records of inspections, permits, licenses and code violations. 

¨       Records all code violations found during inspections. 

¨       Completes staff reports and special projects as needed.   

¨       Counsels architects on commercial electrical plans. 

¨       Ability to perform data entry into inspection tracking system.

¨       Advises electrical contractors on State and local electrical and lighting codes.   

¨       Promotes and maintains positive departmental public relations and image with customers, which include other City departments and staff, property owners, tenants, and the community in general. 

¨       Provides resource services to residents and licensed electrical contractors pertaining to the electrical code and lighting code. 

¨       Responds to complaints related to electrical and lighting violations.

 REQUIREMENTS:

1.       Knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma.

2.   At least 5 years of specialized or technical training as a Journeyman Electrician.

3.   State of Wisconsin Master Electrician's License required.

4.   Must have a valid motor vehicle driver's license.

5.   Supervisory experience preferred.

6.   Ability to perform data entry into inspection tracking system.

Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.

 SALARY RANGE: Pay Range: 128  $34.22-$39.13 per hour with excellent benefits. 

 THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following:  training and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance tests; or other assessment methods.  The Department of Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations.  Oral examinations may include written exercises.  Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.
