Electrical Relays![]()
|
Electrical relays complete or interrupt a circuit by physically moving electrical contacts into contact with each other. Solid state relays or semiconductor relays (also called SSRs) are devices that can be used instead of mechanical relays to switch electricity to a load. High voltage electrical relays are used to transfer electricity for HV or frequency applications. They are heavily insulated and designed using strong materials to reduce contact damage and therefore increase relay life. Protective and monitoring electrical relays detect and/or monitor for unstable power system conditions. Safety control modules and their component relays differ from conventional relays in that they have force guided (positive driven) contacts. In motor protection, overload relays prevent electric motors from drawing too much current and overheating. This includes thermal and solid state overload types Time delay relays and solid-state timers use solid-state electronic devices to provide a time delay.
