Iris Power L.P was founded in 1990 by four of the Iris officers and Ontario Hydro. Iris develops and manufactures diagnostic equipment to determine the ongoing condition of the electrical insulation in generators and large motors. Iris’s market includes electric power utilities and process industries, where condition based maintenance is crucial to motor and generator operation and longevity. Products include electrical sensors and electronic instruments, which allow users to perform online partial discharge testing. Iris also produces systems for monitoring voltage surges, and has developed expert system software to determine the risk of motor and generator winding failure.
