| LumaSense Technologies was formed in 2005 to be the global leader in sensing technologies. In 2005, Lumasense acquired Luxtron Corporation based in Santa Clara, CA. Luxtron pioneered the field of fiber optic winding temperature measurement more than 20 years ago and today is the premier provider of field proven direct, real time monitoring and control systems for the power utility industry. Based on Luxtron's patented Fluoroptic® technology, these direct winding temperature measurement systems have evolved considerably from laboratory instruments to robust, industrial control systems ideal for monitoring transformers in geographically isolated locations LumaSense is still the global leader in fiber optic measurement technology.

In July 2006, LumaSense Technologies acquired Innova AirTech Systems A/S, a leader in the sensing and measurement of trace gases. The company manufactures cost effective systems for the detection, monitoring and analysis of a wide range of gases for the industrial, medical, energy, environmental, and scientific applications. Innova's proven and differentiated technology, based on infrared Photoacoustic and magneto-acoustic spectroscopy methods, operates in a variety of environments to measure up to 2,000 different gasses.
LumaSense Technologies' temperature measurement products allow direct, real time and accurate measurement of the transformer winding temperature -- providing valuable input to calibrate thermal models, enabling dynamic load control, providing cooling system control and the ability to activate protective features for the transformer. Conventional winding temperature indicators (WTI) "infer" hot spot temperature by measuring the top or bottom oil temperature and loading on a single phase of the transformer. Industry studies have proven there can be a significant lag between change in hot spot temperature and when the change is sensed by a WTI. This makes the WTI unsuitable for dynamic load operation, possibly leading to insulation damage that corresponds to a reduction in transformer life. With LumaSense Technologies' direct temperature measurement systems, the probes measure temperature directly at the transformer winding in real time, providing valuable input to thermal models and protection / control schemes thereby enabling dynamic load operation and allowing utility companies to safely manage transformer overloading and more effectively control auxiliary cooling systems.
WTS-22
- Programmable Temperature Setpoints and Relays for Cooling Control and Protection
- Probes are immune to RF and EMI interference
- Solid State Fluoroptic® Light Source - no replacements needed
- No Calibration Required

LumaSense's WTS products enable direct monitoring of the transformer winding hot spot and control of transformer cooling and protection. The WTS-22 represents LumaSense's 4th generation of transformer winding temperature measurement system, incorporating knowledge gained from
over 25 years field experience working with leading utilities in over one thousand installations
around the world. This mature product and technology does not require additional manpower to maintain and operate.
ThermAsset®2
- Direct, Real Time, Accurate Measurement of Hot Spot Temperature, -30 to 200°C
- Available temperature data storage
- Choice of 4, 6 or 8 measurement channels
- System Fault Relay and Status Indicator
- No calibration required / do not need to replace light source
- Programmable setpoints and relays have individual LED alarm indicators

The ThermAsset2 temperature monitor and controller is designed to measure transformer winding hot spots in real time, activate control of the cooling system, and provide protection through trip features to the transformer. This allows for optimum operation of the transformer at regular load and overload conditions. It is available in 4, 6 or 8 channels and can be used in conjunction with our Rugged probes as well as our Quality probes.
Rugged Probes
|
LumaSense Technologies' 3rd generation rugged probes are flexible, armored, and have a dual O-ring seal at the transformer tank wall interface. Made with an all-silica 200mm fiber, these probes are more flexible and stronger, thereby more resilient than earlier generation probes.

Quality Probes
LumaSense is proud to provide our new Quality Probes that still have excellent construction but are priced more cost effectively. |
LumaSense Technologies' ISO 9001:2000 certified manufacturing facilities are located in Santa Clara, California and Ballerup, Denmark. LumaSense continues to be at the forefront in developing robust, fiber optic systems to extend the life of power transformers as well as utility-focused gas solutions.
