Kato has introduced a new high reactance 2500 kVA generator for oil drill rig applications. A higher reactance allows more units on a common bus since the instantaneous short-circuit current is less. This allows lower interrupting devices or even the use of existing interrupting devices on rig repower projects.
Thousands of similar Kato generators are in operation in petroleum applications worldwide. Many drilling rigs are still operating today with Kato generators manufactured over 35 years ago.
