Ottawa, ON. -- The Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) is encouraged by the direction of the energy report released today by US President Bush.

CEA President Hans Konow noted in particular the prominence given to electricity and electricity transmission issues. "We support the need for increasing electricity generation capacity, as well as the need to improve transmission on a continental scale. At the same time we need to pursue all practical avenues to enhance energy efficiency "

Mr. Konow noted that "CEA takes the view that further integration of North American electricity systems will benefit consumers both in Canada, and in the United States through enhanced availability of power and improved reliability of the system."

The Canadian electricity industry has been developing its views with respect to a North American Energy approach and has made them known to both the Canadian and U.S. governments. CEA plans to release its formal submission later this month.
