-- Ontario Liberal Leader Dalton McGuinty has called for a "forensic audit" of all consulting contracts undertaken by Hydro One, Ontario Power Generation, and the other successor companies of the former Ontario Hydro.

McGuinty said news of the overly-generous severance for the president of Hydro One points to the need for a forensic audit, overseen by the Provincial Auditor, to find out if the Tories are continuing to reward their friends with rich consulting contracts at the expense of taxpayers.

"The rot goes deeper. Families are going to pay for it. We have to get to the bottom of it."

McGuinty will introduce a private bill which, if passed, would bring Hydro One and these successor companies under the Freedom of Information Act.

The same bill would also require the government to disclose all salaries of $100,000 or more of employees of all Hydro companies. "There is a wall between us and the information. We need to tear down the wall."

With the breakup of the former Ontario Hydro, the successor companies including Hydro One and Ontario Power Generation became immune to the Freedom of Information law and the Public Salaries Disclosure Act, which makes public all salaries of public officials of $100,000 or more.
