Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro Realigns Workforce

St. John's, NF --Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro announced today workforce realignment as part of continuing efforts to improve efficiencies and cost-effectiveness of operations throughout the Corporation.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is committed to providing its customers and electricity consumers in the Province with electricity at the lowest possible cost that is consistent with reliable services.

The realignment affects 46 permanent positions; however, 18 of these positions are currently vacant and will be declared redundant. In making these adjustments, the Corporation always attempts to minimize the impact on employees and communities in which they work, taking advantage of vacancies.

"However, the obligation is to ensure that costs that are within our control are kept to a minimum. It is essential that we maintain the confidence of electricity consumers and our Regulator, ensuring that our operations are as efficient and reliable as reasonably possible," said William Wells, President and Chief Executive Officer of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro.

Mr. Wells concluded by saying that "these organizational changes will not affect Hydro's emergency response capability. Safety, the environment and the quality of service are of the utmost concern and will not be compromised."
