Russian Atomic Energy Ministry sees positive side to IAEA resolution on Iran
MOSCOW
The [Russian] Atomic Energy Ministry views as positive the fact that the International Atomic Energy Agency [IAEA] resolution on Iran allows Russia to continue its cooperation with this country in the area of nuclear energy, a senior representative of the ministry told Interfax, commenting on the resolution adopted by the IAEA Board of Governors on Wednesday [26 November].
"The IAEA resolution will not place an obstacle to the Russian project for building a nuclear unit in Iran and further Russian- Iranian cooperation in the nuclear sphere," the ministry's spokesman said.
He also said that the ministry favours a speedy resolution of the situation with Iran's nuclear programme. "It is necessary to end the political frenzy around the Iranian issue as soon as possible," he said.
The Atomic Energy Ministry spokesman said the Russian ministry "views as positive the fact that the IAEA Board of Governors has managed to keep the issue of discussing this issue within the framework of the Agency". [Passage omitted: repeat of earlier reports on IAEA resolution]
