Ontario Power Generation (OPG) will be moving about 450 nuclear engineers and support staff out of its Toronto offices closer to its nuclear plants at Pickering and Darlington.

OPG has announced that a new 115,000 square foot facility in Pickering will be ready to receive nuclear staff by late 2004 or early 2005.

OPG chief operating officer Graham Brown said the move should improve productivity and enhance the company's operational and safety performance. The move should also save the company money by having its head office nuclear staff located closer to the plants.

The move is part of OPG's $400 million restructuring program announced in January, 2002. Head office employees supporting the hydroelectric program will be moved to Niagara Falls, while support staff for the fossil fuel program will be moved to Nanticoke.
