Nuclear Power Part Of Canadian Kyoto Commitment
TORONTO --
Ontario needs nuclear power from its nuclear reactors such as those at Bruce, according to Dalton McGuinty, leader of the Ontario Liberal Party.
Touring the Bruce nuclear power station, Mr. McGuinty stated, "We've had a nuclear industry in Ontario for about 50 years and it has been, by and large, a very successful and solid record."
He noted the importance of nuclear power for Ontario and for Canada's commitment under the Kyoto Protocol.
"The electricity from the revitalized units (Bruce A units 3 and 4) will be crucial at a time when Ontario faces electricity shortages," Mr. McGuinty said.
He added that he was in favour of restoring to service Bruce A Units 1 and 2 as well.
"We are now in a Kyoto world. To my way of thinking, nuclear generation is an integral part of a responsible, progressive plan to generate electricity in the 21st century."
