ALSTOM has been awarded a 24.5 million dollar contract to upgrade two generators at a hydroelectric power plant in British Columbia, Canada, for one of the country's major utilities, British Columbia Hydro and Authority (BC Hydro).

The G.M. Shrum Hydroelectric Generating Station, located on the Peace River near Fort St-John in British Columbia, was commissioned in the late 1960s and produces a total of 2730 MW with the 10 existing units.

ALSTOM will increase the output rating of each of the two generator stators by 34% from 239 MVA to 321MVA and improve the reliability, efficiencyand operating life of the machines.

The upgrading work will include supplying new stators and coolers, with ALSTOM's Hydro unit in Sorel-Tracy, Canada, being in charge of manufacturing, installation and commissioning of the project. The first unit is scheduled for completion in August 2007 and the second for June 2008.

Claude Lambert, ALSTOM Hydro Canada's President and Chief Operating Officer, commented: "We are very pleased to receive this vote of confidence from BC Hydro and we see G.M. Shrum as the continuation of a renewed business relationship between our companies."
