Bruce Power Receives Permission to Restart Two Nuclear

The decision means that the units can be restarted once a designated officer of the CNSC is satisfied that the reactors are safe to operate at full power.

"This decision gives additional impetus to our program to restart the first Bruce reactor before the end of April so that it can provide electricity to the Ontario grid well in advance of the summer peak," said Duncan Hawthorne, CEO of Bruce Power.

Together, Bruce Units 3 and 4 will provide 1500 MW of generating capacity. The first unit that returns to service will be Unit 4 which has been refueled, to be followed by Unit 3.

The Bruce Nuclear Generating Station is the world's second largest nuclear facility, and it produces approximately 15 per cent of Ontario's electricity supply.
