Securing a Renewable Energy Future for Ontario

November 3-4,2004 Toronto, ON
Park Plaza Hotel (Airport)

Supporting Organizations:

In the Province’s aim to reach its "clean energy" targets, the Ontario government has turned to private energy producers in its efforts toward having 2,700 megawatts of energy produced by renewables by 2010.

On June 24, 2004, the Ministry of Energy issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) and final Renewable Energy Supply (RES) contract to solicit approximately 300 megawatts (MW) of capacity from Renewable Generating Facilities. The expressions of interest totalled 4,400 MW of new renewable energy.

This year’s forum will bring together leading Canadian experts to discuss where Ontario is now in relation to renewable energy, what role renewable energy should be playing in Ontario’s future, and how to turn this sustainable energy vision into reality.

There are many successes to celebrate in Ontario on renewable energy. Learn from presenters as they showcase their technologies, providing delegates with a base of experience and why it’s important to continue down a path towards a more sustainable energy future in Ontario.

Delegates will acquire information on how to leverage investment through government funding programs and private investment, what the barriers are in renewable energy development in Ontario and how to overcome them, and what has been learned in other jurisdictions that can be brought forward into Ontario.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how to secure a sustainable, renewable energy future for Ontario!

Sun Shines Brightly on Toronto Hydro’s Latest Green Energy Initiative
Joyce McLean
, Director, Environmental Affairs, Toronto Hydro

Toronto Hydro-Electric System Ltd. recently put the finishing touches on Toronto’s largest industrial solar power generation system. The pilot project uses solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity for use at the company’s Service Centre at 500 Commissioners Street. Each of the 189 solar panels, or "modules", can generate 190 Watts of electricity.
