Large or small, each and every industrial, commercial and institutional organization needs to do an analysis of all the parts of their power system: such as analyse fault data, come up with protection settings, then get all of the components of their plant to be controlled by the operators who are responsible for integrating their power system into communication and data acquisition modes.
This course will bring students a better understanding of their electrical system protection network, as it pertains to steady-state load, and electrical fault conditions.
Students will be learn the essentials of electrical protection design, relay coordination, and fusing fundamentals. Students will be provided with an understanding of digital protective relaying, as we go through practical examples of generator, feeder, motor, and transformer electrical protection.
There will be a special half-day presentation on the fundamentals of Electric Motor protection. In addition, students will be led through a second half-day presentation on Fusing Fundamentals where they will learn the fundamentals of circuit protection using fuses. There will be a review of overload conditions that exist in an electrical circuit, and they will learn how to recognize and deal with overcurrent protection and short circuit protection.
