Transmission Line Designer (6038)

The Company
Our client is Alberta’s transmission leader, owning and operating 11,600 kilometres of transmission lines and approximately 300 substations. On April 30, 2002 our client assumed control of Alberta’s largest transmission system (previously owned by TransAlta), marking the beginning of a new era in the Canadian electricity industry. With the completion of this transaction, their newly established company became the first independent transmission provider in Canada.

The Function
Under the direction of the Manager, Integrated Projects this position will appeal to individuals who are Civil or Electrical Engineers, or Technologists and have experience in the transmission utility industry.

The Transmission Line Designer will be responsible for completion of designs on a wide range of projects including Capital Upgrade & Replacement projects and customer-driven Direct Assign projects.

· Design of transmission line facilities including plan and profile drawings, conductor sagging, structure designs and assembly designs.
· Identify material and equipment required to complete internal transmission line projects.
· Deliver accurate and thorough designs that will meet specifications in the electrical code, company standards and engineering practices, and are compatible with good construction practices and overall due diligence.
· Provide technical support during construction to the site personnel completing installation of, or modifications to the facilities.
· Maintain good relationships with project management personnel, a multi-disciplinary engineering team, and contractors through the execution of projects.
 

The Individual
The successful candidate should possess the following:

· Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering, or Diploma in Electrical Technology.
· APEGGA membership, ASET membership or eligibility for membership.
· Minimum 2 years of experience in transmission line design.
· Experience with PLS-CADD and SAG10.
· Working knowledge of Windows NT, Office 97/2000; Microsoft Outlook would be an asset.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Ability to work in a team environment and develop strong internal and external relationships.
· Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a wide variety of issues simultaneously.
