Project Leader (6028)

The Company
Our client is Alberta’s transmission leader, owning and operating 11,600 kilometres of transmission lines and approximately 300 substations. On April 30, 2002 our client assumed control of Alberta’s largest transmission system (previously owned by TransAlta), marking the beginning of a new era in the Canadian electricity industry. With the completion of this transaction, their newly established company became the first independent transmission provider in Canada.

Over the years, our client has succeeded in building stronger communities by supporting programs that have ties to their investment priorities. They will continue to do so by using their technological resources, financial strength, and human capital to invest in innovative programs.

The Function
In support of their growth strategy, our client’s Projects Department is currently looking for a Project Leader who will be responsible for the delivery coordination of capital projects. The primary focus will be to manage the design, cost, quality, schedule, and safety for multiple substation and transmission projects. This role will involve the project management of both externally-driven projects assigned to our client by AESO and internally-driven Capital Upgrade & Replacement projects.

Reporting to the Manager, Integrated Projects, your responsibilities will include the following:

· Effectively manage capital projects ranging from $50K to $3M, from start to completion.
· Manage overall cost, quality, schedule, and safety to meet the project objectives.
· Manage a number of consultants and contractors throughout project execution.
· Communicate with consultants and our client’s project team members on project scope, objectives, accountabilities and commitments.
· Report project status, finances, and schedule status to internal and external customers, stakeholders, and senior management.
· Manage and coordinate multiple customers and changing priorities on a daily basis.

The Individual
The successful candidate should possess the following:

· Degree in Engineering, Registered Professional Technologist (RPT) certification, or working towards the RPT certification.
· Three to eight years of electrical utility experience.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Strong team player.
