Application Background: Kuhlman's Type MI, Low-Profile Primary Metering Cubicle (Photo 1) is a compact, three phase metering solution for underground cable installations. The unit comes as standard, stainless steel, which lends itself for usage in all environments and incorporates a low-profile design (32"H x 50"W x 41"D) which is great for residential, resort and other aesthetically desired areas. Kuhlman has provided typical metering cubicles in the past using separate CTs and VTs, which require a fairly large housing (51"H x 72"W x 60"D).
With many requests and applications for smaller size offerings, Kuhlman has been able to integrate our dead-front, combination CT/VT units (Photo 2) to meet this market need in LESS THAN 1/3 THE SIZE. Units can be used for various 5, 15, and 25kV systems. Whether you have radial or loop feeds (line and/or load), the MI cubicle can serve your application needs in one, quick to install metering solution.
Product Description: The MI cubicle comes custom made per the customer's voltage and current ratio requirements, with the transformers installed, pre-wired and tested (Photo 3). Units can be provided with customer specific wiring color-code, a terminal block inside the cubicle for remote metering or other non-standard designs. The cubicle is dead-front on both front and back which provides protection for the installer and against possible animal intrusion.
